Whedon Update: Serenity Trailer + Interview

Hey guys, it's Donnie... If you don't know who Joss Whedon is, you're seriously missing out. I'm not really a rabid Whedonite, but I did enjoy Buffy and Angel quite a bit and I absolutely LOVE Firefly, so suffice it to say I'm more than a little excited about the upcoming Serenity.

No idea what I'm talking about?

Well today's your lucky day. I'm offering you the chance to get in on the ground floor so to speak on the world and works of the uber-talented Joss Whedon. This is the guy who not only masterminded some of the best television of the 1990's, but also had a hand in writing the scripts for more than a few just flat out great movies, including Speed and Toy Story. He's authored the critically acclaimed Astonishing X-Men comic series and he's about to make his feature film directorial debut with Serenity, the big-screen adaptation of his short-lived Sci-Fi/Western TV series Firefly. He'll follow that up by bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen. Whedon is right up there with Aaron Sorkin as one of the best dialogue men in the business. This guy has done it all, and he's some who's mere presence on a project immediately jumps my anticipation level about 400 points.

In Focus magazine did a great interview with him back in June, and they've just gotten around to publishing the damn thing. You can read the interview in it's entirety online RIGHT HERE. Talk about in depth. It'll give you a great sense of who Joss is, what his career has been like, what drives him, what sort of projects get him excited, so on and so forth. I'm pretty knowledgeable about the life and times of Joss Whedon and there was a good deal of information in here that I had never heard before. (Joss Whedon's Batman? Good Lord....) For those of you who are already following Serenity, there's some nice insights on the movie, bringing it to the big screen, what had to be altered from Firefly in the transition, etc.

Once you've given that a read, you can CLICK IT HERE to see the full domestic trailer for Serenity. There's a good deal of stuff there from the teaser as well as the international trailer I put up a short while ago, but there's also some new stuff as well, including some great examples of Whedon's mastery of clever dialogue. And DON'T FORGET that Sci-Fi channel is airing all the episodes of Firefly in the proper order (something Fox never even did) every Friday night at 7/6C. Last week was the end of the two hour pilot, so if you start watching this week you'll be in a pretty good place to start. I devoured the entire series box set last semester, as did my roommate. He especially liked the theme song...
